Lao Tzu once said: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. This single step has opened for me so many more doors that I cannot thank for enough.
Back in 2016 when I was in Vietnam, I was the first staff of Phuc Hung Books – a publishing company. I wore many hats from an editor, photographer, assistant, advisor, designer for 2 years. Since being established, the founder of Phuc Hung Books has defined themselves as a “storyteller” with the belief that everyone has their own story that deserves to be heard.
In 2020, Phuc Hung Books, together with their Storytellers community, planned to release printed work called What Do We Live For. As the original idea had been sketched since 2018 when I was still working for the company, Chau – the founder, contacted me and said that “Although you left, you’re always part of us, let’s create something together”.
Without hesitation, I accepted and worked on this project as an editor and photo storyteller. And that is how we have Phuc Hung as the very first client to pave our way in publication sector. The book was planned to be published this summer 2021 but due to Covid spike happening in Vietnam at the moment, the publishing house put a hold on it and released the audio and e-book version first. You can pay a visit at these links, however, it’s all in Vietnamese (sorry)

Talking about the journey of creating the visual part for “What do we live for”, if I can only choose three words, they are: gratitude, experience, serendipity.
I’m grateful for Chau who fully believes in me to let me in charge of the visual for the project. Lao Tzu once said: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. This single step has opened for me so many more doors that I cannot thank for enough. The whole experience excites me and helps me learn a lot (gain much knowledge) in the sense of narrative photography. On top of that, by doing the project, it was only through pure serendipity that I met all my good friends, my biggest comfort and my strongest motivation.
I hope you will enjoy my work and can find some comfort through it. I attach below some photos from the project. By all means, if you would like to have a chat or would like to share some thoughts, hit me up at this link or leave the comment below and I will be in touch.
