We knew each other by a post on social media. Tam managed to plant lots of mugwort – a kind of vegetable in my home country that normally went very well with omelette, so she wanted to share with other members in Vietnamese society.
Being far away from my home for a long time, I did not waste any second to comment on her post to get some of it, hoping that my homesickness could be somehow calmed down. That is how our friendship began.
At that time, coincidentally, I was working on a book project for a publishing company based in Vietnam. It required featuring Vietnamese couples, so I asked for their help.
Right at the beginning of the session, Son and Tam expressed themselves naturally as if we had known each other for years.
I just could not express how grateful I am to Son and Tam, not only because they sacrificed the whole day, regardless of their tiredness close to the end of the session, to support someone they had just known for a few days, but also due to their kindness and trustworthiness.
I know that they must hold a certain belief in me to have that confidence not to hide their personalities in front of my camera.
